The Sunday Note

Sunday night before fall break is when the week gets invented in the driveway. School is closed. Work is not. The after-school program that usually covers Tuesday often shuts down with the calendar. That is the scramble.

This week's tactic: treat fall break as a coverage week, not a vacation, unless your job closed too. Open the district calendar and write the real dates. Then get one quote from a place you would actually use. A city day camp in Elizabeth, Colorado posted $55 a day for October 12 to 16. A Memphis camp posted $195 for five days. Metro Atlanta day programs landed around $60 to $125 a day. Your town will not match those numbers. Call yours.

Three lanes. Days a program covers. Days a person you trust covers. Days someone takes off work. Put a name on every weekday. The week school closes and work does not walkthrough has the scripts. Print the fall break coverage plan if you want it on the fridge.

This week, before Sunday night: write the closed dates, price one option, and fill the blank days. A blank day does not get nicer by waiting.

See you next Sunday.
